Black History Month 2020... 

October 2020 sees the children working on lots of aspects of the curriculum through the lens of BHM. 

In P6 the children studied the poem ‘Caged Bird’ and examined the way Maya Angelou uses extended metaphor to portray the oppression and suffering of the African-American slaves throughout history.
 
As part of their analysis of the poem ‘Still I rise’, P8 have been debating whether statues of historical figures connected with the slave trade should be removed and whether streets named after such figures should be renamed.
