Sunday Evening Issue!

From the Headmaster

Dear Parents,

The weather is set to be good for ‘Walk to School Week’, which starts on Monday morning. Mr Wood will be gathering the pupils together in the recreation ground to walk to school at 8.10am. It would be nice to see as many children as possible get involved this term. Please try to get there at about 8.00am. It would be sensible to drop heavy bags off at school first.

I would like to thank all the parents who made it to Thursday evening’s Future Schools’ event. It was a very informative event and the guest speakers gave a good insight into their schools. I would welcome any parents from P4 to P5 to come and chat with me about future schooling if they have not done so already.

Our programme of enrichment continued last week with our Mathematicians heading off to Merchant Taylors’ School for the Middlesex Prep Schools’ Quiz. Having come second last year, we went one better and regained the crown. This is a very competitive quiz and you can read more when the item is posted on the Website. Thank you, Mrs Khan, for organising this opportunity.

The sports teams were out in force this week with basketball, cricket and rounder matches. We won some matches and we lost some matches but what is more important is that the children all enjoyed participating!

Our Chapel Choir gathered together early on Saturday morning as they loaded the minibuses to head off to Walsingham. This is an incredibly popular annual event and I look forward to hearing their stories when the return on Sunday. I must thank Mr Ellis, Mr Wood, Mr Still, Miss Berry and Mrs Beevor for accompanying the children.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Kavia for his work in setting up the new Head’s Forum. Can I encourage parents who are interested in being a voice for their class to reply to Mr Kavia’s email requesting parents to put themselves forward.  If elections are needed, we hope to have them done by half term so that we can set up the inaugural meeting early in June.

We have a busy couple of weeks left as we lead into half term. The parents and pupils in the prep school are now in their final week of revision and homework will now be focused on exam preparation. If you have any questions about the exams please do contact Mrs H Khan.

I would like to finish by thanking Mrs Beevor for running the book fair this week. It was lovely to see the youngest children selecting their books during the week. It was certainly a worthwhile event. Keep reading!

Chapel Choir Trip to Walsingham

This week’s Herald comes to you immediately after our return from Walsingham. It was a superb weekend enjoyed by all the children, and photos and a report will be compiled for the website next week.  I am, however, pleased to report that the other pilgrims visiting the Shrine complimented us on the choir’s singing, their smartness, their behaviour and their politeness – I will be giving Mr Ford more details when I see him, but I thought parents might like to read this first-hand!

Coming up soon

Monday 13 May to Friday 17 May – Walk to School Week – from Harrow Recreation Ground

Friday 24 May – The Chapel Choir will be singing at the London Charterhouse (near the Barbican in the City).  Parents of our singers have already been invited, but this public service is open to all, and other parents and friends of the School are most welcome.  The service starts at 5:30pm, and lasts about 35 to 40 minutes.  More details can be obtained by emailing me (address below).
