Charity Vintage Tea - Cakes Galore
Last Thursday, nearly 100 pupils, parents and staff gathered for a vintage afternoon tea in aid of our favoured charity for the term – ‘Toilet Twinning’.
‘The Great QHS Bake Off’ brought in around 25 offerings, ranging from cake pops and wonderfully decorated sponges to huge chocolate creations and multi-layer constructions! Miss Berry enjoyed tasting them, but she assures us that it was a pleasure, and she didn’t eat too much of any one cake!
Plenty of other home-baked goods meant that everyone could enjoy sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream (yum), and a vast selection of cakes. With endless refills of the teacups it was hard for some visitors to leave. A valiant team of helpers (school staff, parents and friends) ensured that the raffle, the tea and the whole afternoon were all a huge success.
Financially the result was amazing and, after minor expenses (local businesses were very generous in saving us money on the staple goods we needed), we have made enough profit to fund at least 12 toilets in the developing world, where a donation of £60 is enough to fund the installation of a single hygienic latrine. The installation of these in villages and small communities ensures that whole families are healthier, and their children have a much greater chance of a meaningful education.
Thank you to everyone who contributed in any way – we must do it again sometime!
